Why visit Oxford?
The Oxford skyline filled with spires is iconic throughout the world. Oxford University has educated many notable alumni, including 27 Nobel laureates and 26 British Prime Ministers (most recently David Cameron) and many foreign heads of state. It is made up of 36 separate colleges each of which is self-governing and selects its own students.
Students on the Summer School course will have the opportunity to go punting on the river Isis at the Cherwell Boathouse. They then visit the Sheldonian theatre where student graduation ceremonies take place, see the Bridge of Sighs at Hertford College, and view the Bodleian Library which hosts over 11 million books and the Radcliffe Camera, the universities astronomical observatory.
After lunch in the university parks there is the opportunity to visit some of the Colleges and have a talk by a former Wellington College pupil who is currently studying at Oxford University. Shopping on Cornmarket street gives students the opportunity to take back some well deserved souvenirs.
