About the activity
The John Nike Leisuresport Complex in Bracknell boasts an Olympic size ice ring. It is the home of the Bracknell Bees Ice Hockey team.
Ice skating was brought to England from the Netherlands, where King James II was briefly exiled in the 17th century. When he returned to England, this “new” sport was introduced to the British aristocracy, and was soon enjoyed by people from all walks of life.
It later became a sport and was accepted into the Olympics both as modern figure skating and speed skating. It is now often done as a leisure activity particularly between young courting couples.
Skate hire is included so students can relax and concentrate on improving their ice skating skills. All levels of skaters are catered for.
